WILLITS, CA – Fire season now extends throughout the year in Mendocino County. When called for assistance, first responders have expressed concern over the difficulty finding some rural property locations in the Sherwood Corridor. Rapid response is essential to keep our communities safe because localized fires, not extinguished immediately, can quickly turn into devastating wildland fires.

To address the property location issue, Walmart Giving! has awarded Sherwood Firewise Communities a grant that will provide CalFire approved, reflective address signs for Sherwood Corridor residents who are veterans, disabled and/or income eligible. These address signs have 4” high, green, reflective numbers that are easily visible at night and superior to the most common address numbers used by property owners.

The grant also acts as seed money that can be used in future grant applications to demonstrate that Sherwood Firewise Communities is a functioning service organization with community support.
